The Alu 240 PFA is a compact 240-centimetre aluminium probe with a fast tensioning system. This page places it in a splitboard touring context: what it is for, where its limits sit and which equipment still belongs in the setup.

What is the Alu 240 PFA designed for?

A probe pinpoints the buried person after fine search and establishes burial depth and the starting point for excavation. It must be fully tensioned; a loose probe gives poor feedback and may separate in the snow.

A 240-centimetre probe is compact and fits many smaller packs. A longer probe may be a better reserve in regions where deep burials are plausible.

What is our editorial assessment?

We have not yet tested the Alu 240 PFA on tour. This assessment is based on the published manufacturer information and our experience with comparable splitboard equipment. Once we complete a field test, measured data and practical impressions will be separated clearly from product specifications.

What is included and what else do you need?
